On March 31st, two of the biggest DJ duos are stopping by the cities to turn Skyway Theater upside-down! Big Gigantic, a funk duo hailing from Boulder, and Louis the Child, and melodic duo traveling from Chicago, are making their way to Minneapolis for a night of feels, grooves, bass, and some of the best music the electronic scene has to offer!
In 2008, Dominic Lalli and Jeremy Salken came together and decided to blend their musical ability together to form Big Gigantic! After spending a few years gaining momentum in the Boulder music scene, Big Gigantic released their smash album, Nocturnal, in 2011. Since then, they released another album titled The Night is Young, as well as releasing many vibrant singles and unique remixes, such as their remix of Aloe Blacc’s “I Need a Dollar”. They have also had the opportunity to play all over the world and play some of the most prominent festivals such as Firefly, Camp Bisco, Ultra, Lollapalooza, Electric Forest, Summer Set, Austin City Limits, and many more! Their huge amount of success comes to no surprise when you hear their sound, which blends together jazz and electronic funk into an innovative style of funky dance music. This sound is most clearly shown in their collaboration track with Griz, titled “Good Times Roll”. The quicky jazzy buildup is accompanied by a full-bodied chorus, and the drop is filled with brass-heavy sounds and sharp melodic details, later featuring a trumpet section. Big Gigantic has made a huge mark on the EDM scene with their take on jazz-funk, and their smooth but groovy set is not something to miss!
Louis the Child, comprised of Robby Hauldren and Freddy Kennett, could be considered musical prodigies in the electronic music scene, starting in 2012 when they were only 15 years old. Within a year, they had already played Spring Awakening and were labeled by Fist in the Air as the next Madeon. Since their youthful start, Louis the Child have quickly become one of the most talked-about new producers on the scene! Buzzfeed has written articles about the duo, Snapchat listed them as one of the three EDM artists to watch, Mix Mag rated them as the number one artist taking over dance music, and even Taylor Swift mentioned them in a list of artists to listen to! Although they have only released one EP, they are in the works of releasing another and have released tons of singles and remixes that are sure to both entrance you and make you dance the night away!
Their sound is very eclectic, having some tracks that are slower and melodic, some that are more indie electronic and fascinating, and some that are just downright groovy and make you want to move! Take their remix of “Compass” by Zelda Day for example. The first verse and buildup have very deep indie electronic roots to it, blending together high female vocals, a string section, and a mild beat. As the song builds to the drop, the only real differences is the volume of the background line and the heaviness of the beat. The drop is a beautiful conglomeration of strings and rhythm, creating almost a smooth scratchiness of melody that is both soothing to the ear and easy to sway and move to. Louis the Child have quickly become one of the most talked-about electronic artists out there, just adding another reason why this show isn’t something to sleep on!
Big Gigantic have made their way to the top of the scene and rained down jazz and funk to some of the most famous clubs in the world. Louis the Child are quickly moving their way up to the top with major recognition from all over and some of the most beautiful and complex tracks EDM has to offer. Together, they will make a night of excitement and positive vibes that you do not want to miss! So let’s all get together and welcome these guys to Minneapolis on March 31st at Skyway Theater!
