Calvin Harris – Sweet Nothing
by Stephen Mann

The SIMShows #7 track of 2013 is none other than Calvin Harris‘, “Sweet Nothing” featuring the beautiful vocals of Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine.  The song’s official release was via Harris’s third studio album, “18 Months” and was actually released in late 2012, but it didn’t start to get massive attention in the scene until this year. The song came to fruition when Calvin expressed interest in working with Welch, who he had previously produced with while remixing the track, “Spectrum” for her band. Harris mentioned earlier this year in an interview that due to her busy touring schedule, he spent months chasing her before getting her for a few hours of studio time to record the track.

Upon it’s release, “Sweet Nothing” was met with much praise from industry critics, and debuted as the number one single on the UK Singles Chart, and was Florence’s first Top Ten single on the United States music charts. Later in the year, it was nominated for Best Dance Recording at the 56th Grammy Awards ceremony.

If you’ve been to almost any dance club or EDM Show this year, chances are you’ve heard this track, along with every person in the room singing these lyrics out loud:

“So I put my faith in something unknown
I’m living on such sweet nothing
But I’m tired of hope with nothing to hold
I’m living on such sweet nothing”
