Born as Jordan Carter, Playboi Carti grew up in South Atlanta and started his rap career early on in high school by befriending Atlanta rapper Fat Man Key. While in high school, Carti gained a gigantic insight into hip hop elements and marketing by working with Awful Records, the collective that features Father, Abra, and Ethereal. After releasing a mixtape under a different alias, Carti changed his name in 2014 and released his first major track titled “Broke Boi”. This track blew up and brought Carti‘s vulgar style into the international scene. His success furthered with his self-titled mixtape release on Interscope.
On April 14th of this year, Playboi Carti released his first ever mixtape under the new alias, with tracks featuring Lil Uzi Vert, ASAP Rocky, and Leven Kali. This mixtape featured the track “Magnolia” which gained tens of millions of streams, made it to 29 on the Billboard Hot 100, and even was remixed by Lil Wayne. One of the most significant moments in his career happened back in June when he was named one of XXL‘s “2017 Freshman Class”. Playboi Carti has kept his street sound throughout his entire come-up, making his XXL Freshman freestyle worth looking forward to!
