Starting off 2017’s fall festivities at Rev is the Scottish house artist that has gained mass appeal, numerous label spots, and a Grammy nomination: Chris Lake!
Chris Lake has been a musician since he was a young lad, but his career in EDM started when he was 14 and discovered progressive house. He quickly bought a synthesizer and began creating and mixing his own sounds. He first started stirring the scene under an alias with bootleg remixes of tracks by The Prodigy, Eurythmics, and Leftfield; however, he didn’t start gaining momentum as Chris Lake until his release of “Changes” in 2006. This track quickly jumped onto the UK Singles Chart and then was licensed and distributed internationally by Universal. He continued to rampage the dance charts with release after release, having over six tracks make it on the charts in just two years. He also received a Grammy nomination for his help on Deadmau5‘s album 4×4=12. Following his extreme success in releasing records, Chris Lake formed his own labels, Rising Music and Rising Trax, which ended up on hiatus in 2014 due to his drastic genre shift.
In 2015, Chris Lake decided it was time to switch his sound up and started releasing tracks that were completely out of his typical realm. He released five tracks on Ultra, all of which were highlighted for stripping down house music to the key elements and refining those elements to their peak performance. His September 2015 track titled “Stranger” is still recognized today as one of the most popular festival tracks around, and his remixes continue to gain nearly 100 million streams on Soundcloud.
Since 2017, Chris Lake has sprung a new label from his new sound titled Black Book Records, releasing multiple new tracks on it this year. He has also performed at numerous major festivals, such as Holy Ship and Ultra; and earlier this year, he released a compilation with Skrillex titled “HOWSLA” which gained extreme attention from the likes of Billboard and Radio 1.
Chris Lake has brought the Scottish house scene to the world stage, and it’s time to welcome this world-class act to Rev Ultra Lounge this Saturday!
