Daft Punk – Get Lucky
by Stephen Mann

Of all the incredible tracks our SIM crew has heard this past year, our top three tracks of the year have to be truly special. Dance music superstars Daft Punk have created just that. “Get Lucky” is by far one of the most recognizable tracks of 2013, having been listened to by music fans across almost every genre in the industry, and having reached the Top Ten on music charts in 32 countries across the globe. The #2 track on Sound in Motion‘s Top Tracks of 2013 is the lead single off the duo’s 4th album, “Random Access Memories”  and was a surprise hit from Daft Punk who had not released new music in any of the eight years previous.

“Get Lucky” was co-written by Nile Rodgers and French duo Daft Punk and features the vocals of Pharrell Williams. The track was released to worldwide attention as it was one of the first song releases ever to be prefaced with live television trailers and promos, notably on the popular US show, Saturday Night Live. “Get Lucky” was officially released for download on April 19th of this year, although a leaked version of the track three days early went viral and saw tens of thousands of downloads in just hours. By September 2013, the track had sold over 7 million copies, and has been nominated for Best Pop Duo/Best Group Performance and Record of the Year at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards this coming January. “Get Lucky” was also nominated for Best Song at the MTV Europe Music Awards and the album, “Random Access Memories” has  been nominated for three US Grammy’s, Album of the Year, Best Dance/Electronica Album, and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical.

Sound In Motion is proud to name a non-traditional EDM track to our Top Tracks of 2013, and we cannot wait to catch more of Daft Punk in 2014, where it was just announced that they will perform live at the Grammy’s in January for their first appearance on television since 2008.
