Dirty South, a legendary house and progressive house producer, has been changing progressive music and electronic music as a whole with throwback vinyl DJ mixes and beautiful, up-to-date tracks. He will be making the trek halfway across the world just to play for us at Rev Ultra Lounge on May 20th!
After immigrating to Australia from Serbia when he was young, Dragon Roganović started getting extremely interested in producing, mixing tape decks and making bootlegs and mashups when he was a teenager. After going one step further and getting production software, he released his first track under the name Dirty South in 2004. He got signed to Vicious Vinyl Records in 2005 and quickly rose to the top of the Australian dance scene, getting ARIA nominations for “Best Dance Release” in 2005 and 2006. After his remix of “It’s Too Late” by Evermore made it to the number one spot on the Australian charts in 2006, he started slamming out the chart-topping tracks one after another. His collaboration with DJ Paul Harris, “Better Day”, earned an essential radio play by Pete Tong, and his track, “Phazing”, was one of the top sellers on Beatport after its release in 2010. He has even been nominated twice for the Best Remixed Recording in the Grammy’s! His success doesn’t stop at recordings however, headlining festivals such as EDC, Electric Zoo, Tomorrowland, and Creamfields! He’s also toured around the world and played iconic venues such as New York’s Roseland Ballroom and Los Angeles’ Palladium. He released his second album, With You, in 2014 accompanied by beautiful videography for the title track and released a new single, “Find A Way”, a few months back. He also has a new single, “All Of Us”, in the works right now! Dirty South has made a gigantic imprint for himself on the scene in the last few years and continues to come out strong!
With his immense knowledge of music and his unique sound, it’s no wonder Dirty South has flown his way to the top! Unlike many other house producers, Dirty South often puts focus more to the verses of his songs rather than the drop. He makes sure his verses and build ups are perfect and then takes the drop into consideration, rather than creating a generic house track with a slamming drop. You can really hear this focus shift in his track with Rudy, “Walking On The Sun”. The track starts off with a high-key piano melody accompanied by some symbols and a triangle sound. Reverbed vocals follow, transporting the listener to a light cloud in a bright blue sky. The build up is a short, quiet dip in the track, and the drop that follows is smooth and is more of an enhancement of the verse rather than its own separate drop. It’s almost hard to label it as house with how calming yet moving the track is. Dirty South does have many energetic house and progressive house tracks, such as “Freefallin’” and “ID”, but his ability to go from producing house to producing calming, almost genreless electronic makes him one of the top producers in the game!
Not only does Dirty South make his own tracks, but he also produces for some of the biggest artists in the world! He has produced and collaborated with over 50 other artists in his career, such as The Pussycat Dolls, Snoop Dogg, Kaskade, U2, Diddy, and David Guetta. Perhaps his experience producing for multiple different artists and genres is what gave him the knowledge to create With You and his other off-house tracks!
Coming all the way from Melbourne, Australia, Dirty South has proven himself over the years to be a well-rounded and extremely talented musician! He’s gained recognition from some of the biggest artists and organizations in the world, and his mix of house slammers and genre non-specific smooth tracks makes his sets and albums one-of-a-kind. So get ready to welcome this Aussie to the north and kick off your weekend with Dirty South on May 20th at Rev Ultra Lounge!
