Dj Shadow May 2nd at Mill City Nights
by jacktrash

When Josh Davis (aka DJ Shadow) released his first album 17 years ago at the young age of 24, Entroducing immediately became a worldwide sensation in the underground hip hop and disc jockey circles as the first ever album to be produced with only sampled sounds. Davis used sounds from a variety of genres including hip-hop, jazz, funk, soul, and electronic. He evened sampled sounds from television shows and interviews in his mixes. In 2001, Entroducing was inducted into the Guinness Book of World Records as the, “First Completely Sampled Album”, and then in 2006 it was listed in Time Magazine as one of it’s “All Time” 100 best albums. Since then, Dj Shadow has released 7 critically acclaimed albums, including The Less You Know, the Better, and The Outsider. DJ Shadow has become well known as one of the pioneers of instrumental hip hop, and his music has a unique sound that you just cannot get out of your head once you hear it.

DJ Shadow gained a lot of fans after an incident at Miami’s “Mansion” nightclub where he was stopped in the middle of his set and asked to leave the stage by the promoter. Before being escorted off stage, he famously said, “I’ve waited a long time to play here, but they said this sh*t is too future for y’all.”

Later than night, he posted on his Twitter account, “I don’t care if I get kicked out of every rich kid club on the planet. I will never sacrifice my integrity as a DJ…ever.”

For a city like Minneapolis, NOTHING is ‘too future’ for us! It’s been almost two years since he was here in Minneapolis. We cannot wait to see what kind of show DJ Shadow will be bringing with him this time, and we are more than honored to have Josh come and showcase his mixing skill. Get your tickets asap, because this is NOT a show you’re going to want to miss!
