After almost 30 years of relative obscurity, the Australian electronic music scene has exploded into international attention this year with some of the fastest rising stars in the industry hailing from the Southern country. At the 2014 Miami Music Week, Australia was everywhere with artists such as Peking Duk, Joel Flether, Will Sparks, the Stafford Brothers and more playing on stages for tens of thousands and hosting sold out afterparties throughout the city. According to fans who attended, “Australia is the new Holland”.
One of the sold-out parties that was considered one of the most hyped of the week was the one hosted by DJ Helena, the London-born, Australian artist who has just signed a worldwide deal with Sony. After headlining clubs throughout Australia, Helena exploded into national attention with the #1 charting track, “Girl from the Sky”. She has continued to produce originals and remixes that have garnered her hundreds of thousands of plays on her SoundCloud account and almost daily gigs all over the world. Besides signing record deals with Sony, she’s signed a management deal with SPIN Artist Agency and her first US tour had her playing New York, Las Vegas, Miami, LA, and San Diego. Helena’s festival schedule this summer is packed, and opportunities to see this rising star play smaller, intimate shows will continue to become more and more rare.
Come experience Helena’s music at the newly renovated REV Ultra Lounge in Minneapolis this Friday (4/25)! $5 cover.
