Green Velvet @ Rev 4/17/15
by Stephen Mann

Curtis Jones, who goes by the stage name of Green Velvet, is a legendary tech house producer based out of Chicago. After his spectacular sold out show last year at Marquee Minneapolis, he is coming back to the city at once again April 17th!

Green Velvet started his career in 1991 with heavy basslines and the Chicago underground under the name Cajmere. After studying chemical engineering at the University of Illinois, he moved back to Chicago to pursue a career in electronic music. In 1993, he created Relief Records, a label that focused more on track-oriented work, and Green Velvet was born.

Green Velvet is known for his catchy rhythms and cleverly minimalistic characteristics, making dance floors go wild worldwide. Mix that with his unique use of vocal samples, such as his use of a preacher’s sermon in “Preacherman”, and you get this funky old-sound house music that will transport you from Rev’s mainroom to an industrial club floor in late 1990’s Chicago.

You may recognize Green Velvet’s music from the many artists that sample and remix it, such as Bingo Players, Nicky Romero, Flosstradamus, and Yellow Claw. Green Velvet’s legendary “La La Land” was recently sampled in Flosstradamus and Yellow Claw’s track, “Pillz”.

Green Velvet continues to blow the minds of electronic activists with new tracks and his monthly podcast, Electric Playground. With tracks both legendary and jaw-dropping, mixed with new tracks keeping you on your feet, Green Velvet is not an artist to miss! Get your tickets and parachute pants ready for an amazing night at Rev Ultra Lounge on April 17th!
