Although the clouds and thunderstorms have taken over the start of this week, this past weekend was the perfect weekend for some summer festivals: bright sun, nice breeze, hot weather, and a little rain in the evenings to cool everyone down. Whether you danced your heart out at one of these banging festies this weekend, or if you just wanna learn a little more to plan early for next year, let’s recap on some of the top festivals that occurred this weekend!
Spring Awakening Music Festival
On June 10th, Spring Awakening Music Festival (SAMF) opened its gates for the 5th time to tens of thousands of attendees eagerly awaiting to rage face! Officially starting in 2008 as a concert series by React Presents, SAMF moved to the festie scene in 2012 and has grown to be the biggest EDM festival in all of Chicagoland! After making its debut on Soldier Field and continuing at that venue for four years, SAMF moved to Addams/Medill Park in the Little Italy section of Chicago, allowing a growth in festival capacity. Five stages of nonstop music were offered this year, hosting legendary artists such as Above & Beyond, Kaskade, The Chainsmokers, Steve Aoki, Carnage, Dash Berlin, Deadmau5, RL Grime, and many more! And to top it all off, Dirtybird, DJ Mag, and Pete Tong acted as the stage curators during the festival, hosting and announcing many of these ground-shaking artists to the festie goers! We congratulate our Summer Set partners React Presents on another mind-blowing Spring Awakening and are excited to see where the new venue will bring them in the coming years!
Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival
Seen as one of the biggest multi-genre music festivals in the country, Bonnaroo opened the gates of Great Stage Park on June 9th for its 15th year of providing attendees with the best rock, electronic, jazz, country, hip hop, reggae, and world music! This year, over 80,000 people made the trek to Manchester, Tennessee to get a taste of what Bonnaroo has to offer. And this year, there were more artists and stages than ever imagined: 10 stages with over 100 artists! Some of the artists featured this year consisted of Pearl Jam, Dead & Company, Ellie Goulding, Tame Impala, M83, Chvrches, Father John Misty, Purity Ring, Adventure Club, Griz, Vince Staples, and many, many more! Not only does Bonnaroo provide some of the biggest names in music, but they also have a comedy tent and a cinema tent, allowing patrons to watch a film or half a laugh in between musical acts. Throughout the four-day weekend, there are also plenty of art workshops and exhibits, as well as parades and other fun activities to keep everyone entertained! With all that goes on in a four day period, it’s not wonder that many artists and activities stay popping until the sun comes up! Bonnaroo 2016 was another gigantic success for Superfly and AC Entertainment, and we are pumped to see what Bonnaroo 2017 has in store!
Mysteryland, the longest running EDM festival in the world, saw a rush of attendees flooding the Woodstock venue in Bethel, New York for its third US version! Starting in 1993 in the Netherlands, Mysteryland has hosted some of the most legendary artists in the game, as well as some of the biggest up-and-comers to date! After hosting Mysteryland solely in the Netherlands for over 15 years, ID&T, the promoters of the festival, decided to bring Mysteryland overseas in 2011 and host an event in Chile. After extreme success in Chile, Mysteryland started a US edition in 2014, and tens of thousands of attendees have been coming out to Bethel Woods every year since! This year, five stages were brought out hosting some of the biggest EDM and hip hop artists around, such as Odesza, Skrillex, Bassnectar, Young Thug, Tchami, Gramatik, Emancipator, The Floozies, Keys N Krates, Ryan Hemsworth, Ty Dolla $ign, XXYYXX, and many more! Not only was there more music than two days could hold, but there was a healing garden holding health workshops, an art section holding art and culture workshops, a fashion bazaar selling beautiful articles of clothing, and a fashion and lifestyle area offering fashion and craft groups! Mysteryland has grown exponentially since its start in 1993, and we at SIM are excited to see where the future takes Mysteryland next!
