End your Black Friday with a bang. Breaking the bounds of typical electronic music, John “JmaC” McCarten better known as Manic Focus, will be brining his talent back home to Minnesota at Mill City Nights, November 28th.
McCarten was classically trained on piano at an early age, and has moved through hip-hop and electronic music to get to what is now Manic Focus. His first tracks range from bass-induced electro hip hop, to more groovy and peaceful tunes, on his debut album Definition of Rhythm.
After his first album Manic Focus expanded more into the world of house and ‘glitch-hop,’ with his second album, Expanding Mind. This more funky dance-vibe is displayed in the title track, as well as his more recent endeavors.
A year ago Manic Focus also released his third album, Distant Perspectives. Amongst many other remixes and mash-ups such as Disclosure’s “Latch” and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ “Dani California,” about a month ago he also released his most recent album, Cerebral Eclipse. The album includes the chill collaboration with GRiZ, “Life Goes On.”
With said influences from Moby, Eyedea, Rhymesayers, Pretty Lights, Michael Menert, Big Gigantic, Dr. Dre and Bassnectar, Manic Focus truly crosses into all kinds of music genres.
Manic Focus has also been a consistent performer at Sound in Motion’s Summerset Music Festival since 2012, and will be headed back up north from his current residence in Chicago to play at Mill City Nights on Friday, November 28th. Pre sale tickets are still available online.
