To get this week’s installment of SIMshows’ music of the week started, we are first headed back to a German group named Scooter who have had some pretty unique genres mixed into their electric ballads over the years, including one of my favorites. And of course you all know Shaun Frank ,coming down from Canada, that I posted about previously this week: in only four short years, he has made it to the top of the charts in multiple countries. It’s just unbelievable. And finally I will share with you one of the best Turntablists of our time today!
I’m starting you all out with a German techno group I personally grew to love, these legends who call themselves Scooter. They were formed in 1994, and since 2010, the group is now currently composed of different members but still rocking it hard with Techno, Happy Hardcore, and Eurodance! They have the great ability to read and rock any venue with any crowd they come across! They seem to always re-invent themselves for just about every single and album they create, while constantly combining different styles that other DJ’s just wouldn’t really separate from their own. This makes them rather unique and very talented. One song I want to share with all of you is one that I have been listening to for the past 10 years; it is just too catchy not to share. Here is Scooter’s “Jumping All Over The World”. Be sure to check out more of Scooter’s older music dating all the way back to 1994.
Next up from Canada, I have to say one of my favorite up and coming artists happens to be Shaun Frank with his blazing electro. Not only is he gracing us with his presence here in Minneapolis this December, but he is really well known for vocalizing in a lot of his music which I personally admire in the EDM world. Not to mention his melody in this hit really reminds me of the lead singer of Avenged Sevenfold with the rasp of his voice in this song. Before his rise to fame, he released his first single in 2013 adding an edge of rock and electro beats, “We Are” with Jake Shanahan and Carl Nunes. If you like what you hear below, including a few of his other electro melodies in the previous week’s blog, make sure to check out Shaun Frank at the Rev December 9th!
An artist I respect, for his utmost amazing skills is Alain Macklovitch, but you know him as his stage name A-Trak. Yes a record producer and music label executive but very few share A-Trak’s mastery of turntablism; in fact, to call A-Trak an accomplished DJ/turntablist is an understatement. From the age of 12, he was a turntablist. Not only was the Canadian the first ever performer to win all three major DJ competitions (DMC, Vestax, ITF), but he is also the first DJ to win five DMC World Championships. He has collaborated digitally as well as using his vinyl but uses Serato along with it. However, he is also no stranger to the hip hop world himself. Danny Brown’s “Smokin’ & Drinkin'” is still one of the most monumental bangers of the last five years. And A-Trak just teamed up with Phantogram for a new upbeat track called “Parallel Lines” It begins almost as a ballad with that piano and leads into fantastic snare drops throughout. I hope you listen to both tracks and get a chance to view his video below.
