Zeds Dead, a dubstep producing duo hailing from Toronto, are known for their one-of-a-kind tracks and creative remixes. After slaying the crowd at Summer Set Music Festival this year, they are coming back to Minneapolis at Skyway Theater on October 9th!
In 2004, Dylan Mamid (DC) and Zach Rapp-Rovan (Hooks) came together and started producing different tracks under the name Mass Production. However, in 2009, they started doing live shows under the surname Zeds Dead. In 2010, they teamed up with The Killabits and started a weekly party in Toronto called Bassmentality. Bassmentality quickly became renowned for hosting the top Djs from all around the world. After the huge success of their weekly party, Zeds Dead signed to a label, San City High, and released their first single, “Rude Boy”. After the success of their first release, Zeds Dead released their infamous remix of Blue Foundation’s “Eyes on Fire” in 2010. Their remix quickly caught fire and was featured on BBC Radio 1, getting the attention of many producers such as Skream and Kissy Sell Out. Since then, Zeds Dead have signed to Mad Decent and have released tracks and remixes on a variety of labels, such as Mad Decent, Dim Mak, Inspected, and Ultra. They have also taken the stage in some of the most prominent festivals, such as EDC, Electric Zoo, Tommorrowland, Ultra, and Summer Set! And if you think they have peaked out on their success, think again! Just this year, Zeds Dead was nominated for a Juno Award, equivalent to a Canadian Grammy. Zeds Dead have branded themselves as the supreme dubstep duo throughout the years and are continuing to grow past their wildest dreams!
One of the reasons Zeds Dead has reached such success is their ability to completely blur the line between genres in just one track. Although they are primarily a dubstep group, their music reaches many heights in trap, electro house, drum & bass, and glitch hop. They have this extreme talent of blending together multiple genres and turning the medley of genres back into their home turf of melodic dubstep. Take their new track, “One Time”, for example: it starts off with a melodic, drum & bass buildup blending rap in between each quickly-written beat. It then quickly becomes the drop, which mixes both trap qualities in the beginning of the drop then ends in dubstep screeches by the end of the drop, repeating itself over and over to create the heavy effect. The second verse takes us back to that drum & bass melodic quality then drops us back into the heaviness. After the roller coaster of sound and energy is finished, however, Zeds Dead brings it back to a melodic dubstep-style finish, reminding the audience that they stick to their roots. Zeds Dead has this unbelievable ability to combine many different genres and create their own while still sticking to their dubstep roots, making them one of the most fascinating and unique artists to see live!
Although Zeds Dead have made it big, playing sold out shows all over and headlining major festivals, they still make sure to give back to their fans! They still release many tracks and mixes of theirs onto Soundcloud as free downloads, allowing everyone to appreciate their music no matter what their income looks like! They also release many of their mixes performed at large festivals for free to their fans, letting everyone experience the pure bliss of their sets for no price at all! Zeds Dead realizes its all about the fans and continues to give back, making them not only talented but also kind-hearted!
Zeds Dead have been working on their technique for almost 11 years and have perfected their talent of combining many genres of music into dubstep. Even with their extreme rise to success, they have never stopped giving back to their fans, so now it’s time for us to come out and support them! So let’s get all the love Minnesota can offer ready to welcome these Canadians back on October 9th at Skyway Theater!
