Canadian group Zeds Dead coined their name in 2009, but the dynamic duo has actually been around the electronic scene much longer than that. The dubstep group is composed of two producers, who go by the names DC and Hooks. They’ve been making beats together since ’04, but it wasn’t until they took the name Zeds Dead that their success would seriously explode into what it is today. But where exactly did they come up with the name “Zeds Dead”? Their name is actually based off of the now famous scene from Quentin Tarantino’s film, Pulp Fiction.
One thing’s for sure: Zeds Dead is anything but dead.
They were first noticed by Skream and Kissy Sellout back in 2010. Their remix of “Eyes on Fire” by Blue Fountain was featured on both Skream and Kissy’s popular radio shows. The same track has over 57 million views on YouTube alone. The original song always reminded me of ‘Twilight’, but Zeds Dead turned it into something completely different! I absolutely love this remix; it’s unique from the original! Check it out for yourself below:
Zeds Dead quickly found themselves signed to Diplo’s popular music label, Mad Decent. “Rumble in the Jungle” shot up the charts and stole the #1 spot on Beatport. It is this track that solidified the household name that is Zeds Dead.
Zeds Dead is a powerhouse, especially when it comes to getting their name out there. They’ve been releasing tracks almost every major bass music label in the industry, including Dim Mak, Mad Decent, and Ultra Records. They are almost always touring, playing over 200 shows last year; With the massive “The Graveyard Tour” and “The Living Dead Tour” containing over 70 shows in a couple of months. We’re not quite sure if they really ever sleep, or if these two are even human!
SIMshows is very excited to see what Zeds Dead has in store for 2014! They just released a new track titled “Somewhere Else” just over two weeks ago, and it already has seen over 400,000 plays:
Zeds Dead is taking the world by storm. With over three million followers on SoundCloud and over 840,000 likes on Facebook; they have quite the following. This summer Zeds Dead can be found playing at major festivals such as TomorrowLand, Electric Daisy Carnival Las Vegas, and Electric Zoo.
